The Classical Rhetoric Atelier: Mastering the College Essay
Long before modern admissions formulas, the ancient world perfected the art of moving an audience through the spoken and written word. This intensive 2-hour writing atelier introduces young writers to the timeless tools of classical persuasion to help them craft a personal narrative of undeniable depth and distinction.
Designed for students preparing for university essays and advanced composition, we completely bypass modern clichés and generic templates. Instead, writers will use Aristotle’s Five Common Topics to unpack their ideas and study the Progymnasmata—the ancient Greek rhetorical steps—to give their prose unshakeable structure. We will demystify and put into practice powerful stylistic devices, and study famous essayists and their prose.
Writers will leave not just with a commanding personal essay draft, but with an elite linguistic toolkit they will use for the rest of their academic lives.
